REN 96
Competitions
The Mini League is a team competition consisting of
individual swims and relays.
There are three rounds of competition and the top six teams
after the rounds swim off in the final.
All the clubs taking part in the competition are divided
into groups of three or four clubs.
The team first named in the group organises the match –
called the host club.
Each of the three rounds has three or four teams swimming against each other for points.
The team with the most points after all the
swims is the winner.
After three rounds of the League, REN 96 will normally have
swum against nine other teams.
There are set weekends that clubs must use to swim the
rounds of the Mini League.
The host club can choose either the Saturday or the Sunday at a pool of their choice and at a time of their choice.
Until the host team informs REN 96 of the venue, the day and the time, we can only let our swimmers
know the weekend on which the event will be held.
The age groups in this competition are as follows:
Age Strokes Distances
8 years and under b/c,
b/s, f/c 25m (individual)
9years b/f,
b/c, b/s, f/c 25m (individual
and relay)
10years b/f,
b/c, b/s, f/c 50m(individual)
and 25m(relay)
11years b/f,
b/c, b/s, f/c 100m(individual)
and 50m(relay)
The REN 96 team is picked from times achieved at previous competitions and timetrials.
Swimmers picked for one round of the League are not necessarily picked for the next round.
Swimmers are informed by letter if they have been chosen to take part in the team.
Sometimes in league matches there are lanes not being used by the competing teams.
In this case the club will be able to swim some extra swimmers in these lanes – these are known as
spare lane swims. The children swimming in these lanes do not get points for the team, but they do
get a chance to compete and their times can be used to enter other competitions and may result
in them getting a place in the team in future rounds.
